Rossi Announces Grants to First Responders in the 59th District

Fire and emergency response organizations in the 59th Legislative District have been awarded nearly $320,000 in grants from the state, Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-Westmoreland) announced today. The funding comes from an ongoing grant program created by the Legislature and administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) and Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC).

"First responders not only risk their lives, but they also sacrifice much of their time to protect our communities," said Rossi. "We thank all our first responders, from our firefighters, paramedics and other emergency and rescue professionals. An investment in our first responders is an investment that benefits everyone."

The grants awarded within the 59th District include funding for various fire departments and organizations:

- Bolivar Volunteer Fire Company - $14,229.

- Crabtree Volunteer Fire Department - $13,840.

- Darlington Volunteer Fire Department - $13,840.

- Derry Township Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 of Bradenville - $14,423.

- Dryridge Volunteer Fire Department - $13,645.

- Fairfield Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 - $14,618.

- Latrobe Free Service Fire Unit No. 6 - $13,062.

- Latrobe Freewill Volunteer Hose Company No. 3 and 4 - $10,450.

- Latrobe Good Friends Hose Company No. 5 - $13,062.

- Latrobe Good Will Hose Company No. 1 - $4,226.

- Latrobe Hook and Ladder Company No. 2 Volunteer Fire Department - $13,451.

- Ligonier Township Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 - $13,256.

- Ligonier Volunteer Hose Company No. 1 of Ligonier - $14,618.

- Lloydsville Volunteer Fire Department - $16,952.

- Mount Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 of Kecksburg (EMS) - $10,000.

- Mount Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 of Kecksburg - $13,645.

- Mount Pleasant Township Volunteer Fire Department No. 2 - $13,451.

- New Florence Volunteer Fire Department No. 1 - $12,891.

- Pleasant Unity Volunteer Fire Department - $14,812.

- Latrobe Rough Terrain Support Unit - $14,265.

- Norvelt Westmoreland Homesteads Volunteer Fire Department - $14,034.

- Wilpen Fire Company of Ligonier Township - $13,062.

- Youngstown-Whitney Volunteer Fire Department - $29,952.

These grants will enable the recipients to carry out projects such as the construction or renovation of fire or ambulance company facilities, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reduction of existing debt. All companies that meet the requirements outlined by OSFC receive funding, and they must file a grant agreement by July 1 to receive their grants.

This investment in the first responders of the 59th District will undoubtedly enhance their capabilities to effectively respond to emergencies and protect the communities they serve. The grants will support the crucial work that these dedicated individuals do on a daily basis, ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents.
