Mar. 26, 2024 - Local Share Account grants, distributed by the Commonwealth Finance Authority, are set to provide a significant boost to first responders and local governments, announced Rep. Eric Davanzo (R-Westmoreland).

Speaking on the distribution of funds, Rep. Davanzo highlighted the importance of the grants, stating, "Local Share Account funds are the result of casino revenue and many of these dollars are going to volunteer fire departments. I can think of no better way to invest these dollars than to assist those who are sacrificing their own safety for their neighbors."

Among the recipients of the grants are various fire departments, with specific allocations for essential equipment. The Rostraver Central Volunteer Fire Department will receive $25,000 for portable radios, enabling better communication and interoperability. The North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department is set to benefit from $7,000 for new hoses and nozzles, while the Scottdale Fire Department will utilize $32,140 for self-contained breathing apparatus packs.

In addition to aiding first responders, Local Share Account grants also support economic development, job training, and community improvement projects utilizing gaming funds. Various other local entities are set to receive funding, including North Belle Vernon Borough, Rostraver Township, Scottdale Borough, South Huntingdon Township, and North Huntingdon Township.

Acknowledging the collaborative effort behind the grants, Rep. Davanzo expressed gratitude for the support received, stating, "It was a big help to have support from our friends in Senate as well. Advocacy by Sens. Kim Ward and Pat Stefano made these grant awards possible."

The grants, distributed by the Commonwealth Finance Authority, aim to enhance public safety, economic growth, and community well-being in the region.
