Bridge dedication ceremony honors military veterans: Rep. Leslie Rossi

On May 9, 2024, Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-Westmoreland) announced a community event to honor two local veterans through the dedication of a bridge. The bridge, which carries State Route 711 over Loyalhanna Creek in Ligonier Township, will be named the Sgt. Alvin P. Carey and Pvt. John C. Ewing Medal of Honor Memorial Bridge.

The dedication ceremony will include participation from Rossi, other state and local officials, Mark Sorice - founder of the Ligonier Medal of Honor Project, Rachel Duda - executive director of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Donna Jones - member of the Carey family, Jeffrey Craig - member of the Ewing family, and Lt. Col. Craig Minnick - United States Army (Retired), founder of the Staff Sgt. Alvin P. Carey and Pvt. John C. Ewing Medal of Honor Scholarship.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m., taking place at the Ligonier Valley Cemetery Chapel located at 105 Nicely Road in Ligonier.
